There was a hungry rat
Who saw a big fat cat
Sitting on a mat
With a wedge of yellow cheese.
Said the rat to the big cat,
"Oh, I want some of that!"
And held his paws out flat
While begging on his knees.
The rat removed his hat
And his tummy he did pat
Just to show to the fat cat
That he was hungry for some cheese.
But the cat ignored the rat
As if he were a gnat
While on the mat she sat
Scratching at her fleas.
The rat said "Why, oh cat,
Do you deny a hungry rat?"
To which replied the cat,
"You did not say 'please'.
