“Learning Insights” (Narrative Report- fieldworks, reports, class discussions)

In my third year in MSU- GSC as BSED ENGLISH student, English 80 (Intensive Reading) was a sort of continuation and application of what we’ve learned and what activities we’ve been doing in English 75. As the descriptive title says “Intensive Reading”, we were still not able to flee from reading. Perhaps, reading has been a part of our system and will remain a part of it since we will be future teachers. Well, of course, I had already expected that we will be engaged with more reading activities, and I was a “little bit” shocked with our requirements. I was not totally shocked because we were already conditioned in English 75 and Eng Ed 1 (75 was a preparatory stage for 80). The subject made me experienced fun, thrill, excitement, and even challenges that only an MSUan can experience.
Waking up early every Monday and Thursday morning is really one of my struggles in my two and a half years stay in MSU. Always in rush it is because since first year my MTh schedule is always 7:30. Now, on my third year, I still have to wake up early for my English 80 class. Unfortunately, I always come to class late. Well, I kept on telling myself not to be late, but it’s just hard for me, so, I always suffer the consequences of my tardiness. Every time I come to class, my teacher is in the midst of the discussion, but thank’s God she never reprimanded the late comers in a harsh way. I also missed the instructions she gave because of being late. Every now and then, I have to follow up with my classmates.
I had really enjoyed the class. I enjoyed our discussion, our classroom activities and our fieldworks. I also enjoyed the company of my classmates, although sometimes they went out of control maybe because most of us in the class were classmates since first year, and most of all we enjoyed our professor.
We were happy when we knew in our English 75 that Prof. Subiere will still be our teacher in English 80. We learned many things from her and in fact, there’s a friendship that was established among us. We don’t get bored in her subject because she would relate the lessons to her experiences from which we laughed. She’s also a good and an expert in her field. She had employed varied teaching strategies, and this made our class fun. She would allow us to do some activities, and the one that I can’t forget is the demo teaching activity. Because of her we also made our way to the world of novels, and the good thing was that we developed a love for novels, but not for reading. She made us do things out of our very best. Most of us students had loved her because she’s kind, friendly, considerate, and understanding. In her subjects, we were disciplined to be good in time management because of the requirements.
In our class discussion, I was really motivated to take down notes so I won’t miss the topic, especially the requirements. Our teacher had also required us some fieldwork and pair/group activities like the big book and the literary circle. Well, this had test how good we are in dealing with our group mates. We learned to be patient with each other, to have the initiative in doing some things, to respect other’s opinions and decisions, and most of all, I was taught to be flexible. I learned to accept that not all the time I would be working with my friends or with those people that I like. The good thing about those fieldworks and group activities is that I came to know my classmates. I discovered that they are kind too. Every time we met to do our requirements we became good friends rather than mere classmates. And although there are misunderstandings, there were also laughters we shared.
Indeed, in this subject alone, we were able to experience valuable things which contributed to shape our personalities. Our skills were enhanced and even our characteristics. I learned things from my professor, my classmates, our discussion, and in our activities inside and outside. We learned a lot of important things from the novels we read and from my experiences in the subject matter itself. Indeed, a hundred and fifty for English 80 is worth it!
